Premium Chickens

Is a $35 chicken worth the splurge?

Overview:

Rare breeds of chicken allowed to mature for a longer period than the supermarket variety are touted for their superior taste. We compared three specialty birds with our favorite supermarket chicken. Our first- and second-place finishers were premium chickens, chosen for their “exceptional” flavor and “high-tone, chickeny” flavor, respectively. But beware: When shipping is added (often shipping is more than the cost of the bird), neither bird is cheap.
