Stabilizing the Whisking Bowl

By Cook's Illustrated Published September 2009

Here's a hands-free method to keep your bowl in place.

Many recipes, like vinaigrette or mayonnaise, call for slowly drizzling an ingredient into a bowl with one hand while simultaneously whisking the mixture with the other, leaving you with no free hands to keep the bowl stable. Here’s how to keep things steady.

1. Line a heavy pot slightly smaller than your mixing bowl with a dampened kitchen towel, tucking one corner of the towel under another to secure it.

2. Place the mixing bowl inside the towel-lined pot. Your bowl will now be held securely as you whisk.
