How to Clean a Rasp-Style Grater

Rasp-style graters are easy to use, but they’re not always easy to clean, especially when long, tough ginger fibers get caught in the teeth.

We find that the following simple strategy works best when cleaning your rasp-style grater.

Be prompt. Cleaning your grater immediately after use makes the job easier. If the grating detritus dries out and bonds itself to the grating surface, soak the grater until the particles are softened before proceeding. When you clean it, rinse it under warm water and then run a wet sponge along the grating surface, moving toward the handle (moving away from the handle will cause bits of sponge to get caught in the teeth).
