Grill Flare Spray
How we tested
Grill flare-ups, caused by dripping fat, can ruin food. Our usual remedy is to move the food away from the flames. Recently, we found another possible solution: FlareDown ($8.49), a food-safe liquid containing water, potassium salts, and grease-cutting surfactants in a 21.5-ounce spray bottle. We spritzed FlareDown onto flames when grilling fatty pork and found that the product fared worse than the methods already in our arsenal. In fact, the FlareDown kicked up ashes onto the meat and only tamed the flames for a few seconds. Worse, we could taste its bitter, salty residue on the food.
