How we tested
Eggies ($4.99 for six) are plastic, egg-shaped containers for hard-cooking eggs without the shell so you don’t have to peel a thing. We cooked eggs according to the manufacturer’s instructions, first spritzing all of each Eggie’s five parts with vegetable oil spray before partly assembling the tool, breaking in an egg, screwing on the top, and placing it in boiling water. Despite the oil, the eggs stuck after cooking, which had us prying them out with a spoon. We were left with flat-topped eggs pitted by droplets of oil and a boatload of tiny plastic pieces to wash. We’d rather peel a dozen hard-cooked eggs than wrestle with another Eggie.
