Christopher Kimball's Holiday Gift List
Brown Sugar Bear
This is a great stocking stuffer. The pottery bears are soaked in water and then placed in a bag of hard brown sugar to soften it up. These little bears really work.

Custom Chef’s Knives
I ordered one of these knives two years ago and have fallen in love with it. Ridiculously expensive? Yes. But the blade is ultra-thin and sharp. Beware. This is a carbon steel blade which will discolor but you will never use another knife again.

The WestBend Electronic Double Timer:
This timer times two events at once. What I like about it is that one timer handles hours and minutes while the other handles minutes and seconds. Plus, they each have their own display windows so you don’t get confused about which timer is for what.
WestBend Electronic Double Timer, $18.95,Model #40056

Taylor Oven Thermometer:
Our research indicates that two different ovens set to the exactly the same temperature can differ in actual temperature by as much as 90 degrees. A real problem since the accuracy of your oven can spell the difference between disaster and culinary triumph. The Taylor's readability, stability, and accuracy represents a good value.

Accusharp Knife Sharpener:
No, this is not as good as the $100 electric Chef’s Choice, but it is better than all the other inexpensive sharpeners out there. A good gadget to have around the kitchen and it does a great job. (Note that this sharpener will not restore a really dull knife.)
AccuSharp Knife and Tool Sharpener, $11.79, item #61739, Ace Hardware (866-290-5334)

Chef Porker:
This small wind-up metal toy is a porcine chef who flips eggs in a skillet. A silly, trivial gift but a great stocking stuffer for the chef on your list.
