Soap-Filled Scrub Brushes

Published September 1, 2009. From Cook's Illustrated.

Can any of these brushes outscrub our trusty scouring pad?

Soap-filled dish brushes eliminate the need to keep grabbing the soap bottle. We tested three that use replaceable nylon bristles. One fits in your palm; the two others were attached to a handle. All dispensed soap easily, but one brush soon began to leak. Widely spaced bristles on all models removed most of the oatmeal encrusted in a pot but struggled to clean away cooked-on strawberry jam. Our winner scrubbed best, thanks to a built-in scraper, plus its handle kept our hands dry. Still, for heavy-duty jobs, we’ll reach for a scouring pad.
