Grill Lights

Published July 1, 2009. From Cook's Illustrated.

Can any of these products keep grill masters out of the dark?

After sundown, diehard grilling enthusiasts can literally be left out in the dark. Enter the grill light. Attached to a gas grill’s side table or cabinet handle, it should illuminate the grates so you can read a thermometer and cook food properly. We waited until dark to test four lights with varying designs, neck lengths, and lightbulbs, as well as a cap with built-in LED lights in the brim. Among the lights, we disliked clip attachments that only gripped flat surfaces, and plastic components that ended up too close to the grill. Our favorite attaches anywhere and features a 24-inch flexible neck that can curve around from wherever it’s placed to shed light on the situation. As for the hat, its twin beams barely illuminated the grill.
