We wanted a large, airtight container with an opening wide enough to accommodate a measuring cup. Did we find what we were looking for?
When it comes to storing flour and sugar, we like an airtight container that can easily accommodate an entire five-pound bag, with an opening wide enough to use our preferred measuring technique: dipping in a measuring cup and leveling off the excess right back into the container—without making a mess. After testing six models, we found that all fit the bill. Each container locked tightly enough to keep a slice of white sandwich bread soft and mold-free for over two weeks. That said, a few extra features caught our attention: clear plastic for easy visibility, measurement markers along the sides, and sturdy handles. Our favorite includes these; plus, for those who buy their flour in 10-pound bags, it also comes in an 8-quart size.
